Abstract Microbial conversion of CO 2 and into chemicals is a promising route that can contribute to the cost-effective reduction anthropogenic green house waste gas emissions create more circular economy. However, biotechnological valorization still restricted by limited number model microorganisms implemented, small profit margin products synthesized. This perspective paper intends explore genetic potential for microbial ectoines, in tentative broaden bioconversion platforms portfolio from C 1 fermentations. Ectoine hydroxyectoine be produced growing at high salinity. They are high-value commodities pharmaceutical medical sectors (1000–1200 €/kg). Currently ectoine production based on sugar fermentations, but expansion other sustainable cheaper substrates desirable. In this work, literature review identify halophilic microbes able use as carbon source was performed. Subsequently, genomes poll were mined genes encode synthesis ( ectABCD, ask , asd ask_ect ). As result, we identified total 31 species with synthesize 14 hydroxyectoine. These represent basis creation novel microbial-platforms promote development chains different industrial scenarios.
